Adventures On Foot
The phrase ‘best-kept secret’ is slightly overused in the tourism industry, but with some exquisite historic buildings within its boundaries, Warwickshire could justifiably make a claim in this department. What is less well known, however, is the proximity of so many walks through our beautiful countryside.
There are several scenic country walks throughout and around Harbury, onto the Chesterton Estate, to Ufton and Southam (circular walk) and to Bishops Bowls. We have information on some of our local walks in the site office.
Further afield, away from Harbury there are many more. Here are 5 of the best!
The reference material that we have used is from hikideas.
1. Circular walk around Long Itchington.
Long Itch, as it is known to locals, is 5 miles from Harbury, and has 6 busy pubs, two of them set on the canal and 4 more spread throughout the village. Holy Trinity Church originates from the 11th century and is worth a visit too! The walk is 6 miles.
2. Circular walk around Napton on the Hill.
This is a scenic walk around a pretty Warwickshire village with some wonderful views of Warwickshire countryside. There are 3 pubs, all popular locally and a cafe attached to the post office. this walk is 4.5 miles.
3. Grand Union Canal and Beacon Hill from Napton on the Hill.
This walk follows canal footpaths and includes wonderful views from the top of Beacon Hill. It is a 7.5 mile hike!
4.Edgehill and Ratley from Radway.
This walk includes the three villages and parts of the battlefield trail. Glorious views from the top of Edgehill. The Pubs in Ratley and Edgehill are well reviewed. The walk is 5.5 miles.
5. Burton Dassett Hills
Burton Dassett Hills isn’t included in our reference material but we know it to be a wonderful area to walk in and around. There is pay and display car parking ( Burton Dassett Hills Country Park Car Park map ref SP394523) with public toilets available.
We have details of a 7.5-mile walk in the site office. The walk takes in the villages of Fenny Compton and Farnborough as well as paths and tracks.
